LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE

PROJECT SUMMARY

Through a grant from the MN Department of Health, Indigenous Visioning has partnered with the National Parent Leadership Institute (NPLI) and Dr. Anton Treuer to offer an Indigenous Parent Leadership Initiative on the White Earth and Red Lake Reservations beginning in January of 2022. 

 The purpose of the Indigenous Parent Leadership Initiative is to support parents and build on their leadership skills through a cultural lens based on the curriculum established by Dr. Anton Treuer and community elders.  

Facilitators
Two curriculum models will be used for the PLT Project:  The Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) curriculum and the Indigenous Foundations curriculum.  Indigenous Visioning will hire Training Consultants to present these two curriculum models to parents and community members on each Reservation in the Fall of 2021.

The PLT Project will take place over a period of 21 weeks.  The core features of the PLT Project include the following components:

• Parent Leadership and Self-Perception

• Civic Change, Government and Policy

• Indigenous Foundations 

• Retreat and Graduation Event

Civic Design Team
A Civic Design Team (CDT) will be established on each Reservation that will help connect the community to the Parent Leadership Training project.  Civic Design Team members will form a committee to assist the Project Coordinator in carrying out tasks and various functions that will make the PLT Project a success.

Some of these tasks may include:

•  Participating in routinely scheduled meetings

• Informing the public of the PLT Project

•  Assisting in recruiting and selecting parents and community members to participate 

• Locating appropriate class sites

• Mentoring PLT project participants

The Parent Leadership Training Consultants and Civic Design Team members will receive compensation for their services to the project.
