FAMILY, FRIEND + NEIGHBOR FUNDING + SCOPE OF WORK
With funding through 2020 CARES Act, $1 million was directed to agencies to provide direct outreach, training and materials supports to FFN providers, prioritizing organizations serving the Somali, Latinx, Hmong, African American, American Indian and immigrant communities. Concurrently, Minnesota’s Preschool Development Grant provided funding support for important FFN initiatives including an FFN Learning Community and early childhood mental health coaching supports for FFN providers.
INDIGENOUS VISIONING SCOPE OF WORK
Year one | Status completed
Gather information from American Indian FFN providers to assess the needs of their child care learning environment
Provide coaching, consultation, resources and technical assistance to American Indian FFN providers based on their needs
Collect agreed upon data of American Indian FFN providers and report findings to the DHS Project Management Staff
Purchase educational and health & safety materials and distribute to American
Indian FFN providers in the proposed area
Year two | Status current
Indigenous Visioning Scope of Work:
Educate FFN providers in areas of culturally relevant learning, health & safety and basic child development
Determine and support needs of FFN providers
Educate and support FFN providers who are interested in becoming a Legal Non-Licensed provider
Establish partnerships to support FFN providers
Recruit FFN providers to an indigenous FFN network facilitated by indigenous staff to provide training/supports
Develop a “mini grant” component to enhance the FFN provider's environment and quality of care. Mini-grants may include requests for health/safety supplies, culture/language materials, educational materials, training and expenses for community based cultural activities.
